On the occasion of UNWTO World Tourism Day on 27 September, the Americas Chapter participated in various activities organized by members and partners in the region.
The President, Sergio Rodríguez Abitia, and later the Director, Verónica Gómez, accompanied by Luis Martínez d'ACHITUR (Chile), participated on 24 and 25 September in the webinars organised by the Municipality of Puebla, Mexico.
On September 29th, the Sistema de Integración Turística de Centroamérica SITCA, under the temporary presidency of Nicaragua, organised the Regional Celebration of World Tourism Day 2020 with the participation of Alejandro Varela, Director for the Americas of the UNWTO, and the Ministers of Tourism of the region.
Verónica Gómez made a presentation on "Community-based rural tourism as a tool for the region" and led a discussion session with the Ministers of Tourism of the Central American countries.
In the afternoon, the director once again spoke, this time at the Professional School of Tourism and Hotel Management of the Universidad Nacional de San Agustín de Arequipa, as part of the 1st International Congress "Redefining Tourism: Opportunities and Challenges".
Finally, on 30 September, the president of ISTO Americas, presents a conference in the framework of the Virtual Tourism Fair of Brazil, the ABAV Collab, which is being held between 27 September and 02 October and which was created to promote the collaboration of all those who work for the sustainability of the tourism sector and to activate the potential of tourism in Brazil. Sergio Rodríguez Abitia, together with Alberto d'Aurea, representative of the Serviço Social do Comércio - Departamento Nacional (Brazil), presents the book "Innovative Tours: Designing Tours for Social Tourism".
