The Americas section of ISTO organised a new edition of its regional forum: the Americas Social Tourism Meeting - Mexico 2023, from 16 to 21 May.
The Encuentro de las Américas de Turismo Social - Mexico 2023 was held in the State of Morelos, thanks to the close collaboration of ISTO's Mexican members: the Secretaría de Turismo y Cultura del Estado de Morelos, the Fideicomiso Turismo Morelos and the Centro Vacacional IMSS Oaxtepec. Almost 150 ISTO members and partners from 11 countries in the Americas took part, enabling them to make progress on a number of important issues.
Throughout the days of the Encuentro, participants worked in a coordinated and cooperative way, both in workshops and through conferences, to find solutions to the most important issues facing the region: new proposals for inclusion in tourism; new ways of measuring tourism with a social approach; the development of new products with a cultural, educational and humanistic meaning for social tourism entrepreneurs; and the development of new public policies for responsible tourism. The Encuentro continued with a Social Tourism Day dedicated to tourism entrepreneurs from the state of Morelos, and concluded with an interesting Trade Fair on 20 and 21 May, where several ISTO members had the opportunity to showcase their tourism offer and diversity to the residents of the city of Cuernavaca.
The Encuentro was therefore an opportunity for ISTO's members and partners in the Americas to meet at the Centro Vacacional IMSS Oaxtepec to disseminate and share best practice in social, fair and sustainable tourism, as well as to discover projects developed in the State of Morelos.
