International Week of Fair and Sustainable Tourism for All 2022.

European meeting “Mirror, mirror, on the wall, tell me, how is the sea today?”

From 21 to 30 April 2022, we organised an event involving 25 young people from Albania, Italy, Greece, Romania, and France. These young people, aged 18 to 25, met over the course of 10 days to discuss the theme of Sustainable Tourism. These meetings were hosted by Charente Maritime youth hostels (in Rochefort and La Rochelle). These organisations work daily in favour of Sustainable Tourism (Ethics, Ecology, Social, and Solidarity themes).

Over the course of this meeting, these young people were able to develop and exchange knowledge and skills in terms of Sustainable Tourism; to present initiatives from their own regions aiming to preserve coastal areas; to (re)discover European politics pushing to develop Sustainable Tourism; and to meet professionals fighting for tangible initiatives in terms of coastal protection. Participants also had the opportunity to create a “Responsible Tourism Checklist”, which will be shared with as many people as possible in the aim of making simple actions accessible for all.

Guide on certification approaches for sustainable tourism

This guide analyses 28 approaches through the lens of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. The aim is to help professionals in the tourism sector choose labels or certifications.

Encuentro por un Turismo Social, Solidario y Sostenible

The H. Ayuntamiento de San Luis Potosí and the Instituto Iberoamericano de Turismo Inclusivo, with the collaboration of the American section of ISTO, are organising the Encuentro por un Turismo Social, Solidario y Sostenible in San Luis Potosi.

A welcome conference, including presentations and organised by ISTO, will open the event. Following this, two panels will take place, during which we will highlight organisations’ roles in boosting tourism for all. Next, local and regional authorities will make a presentation about their initiatives in terms of social, solidarity and sustainable tourism in various Mexican destinations. There will also be a discussion on this topic.

Sustainable tourism: Event against climate change

Through this event, we’d like to discuss the work we do to reduce the carbon footprint of travel and boost local agriculture. This is also the occasion to present our responsible tourism festival - IT.A.CÀ.

2022 Horizon Trophies

This activity aims to reward the best initiatives proposed by actors in the tourism sector. There are 12 categories in total, each related to sustainable development (preserving biodiversity, making tourism accessible for all, reducing CO2 emissions, energy efficiency, local initiatives…).

Analysis of Sustainable Tourism training for the benefit of local populations - Madagascar

Presenting the methodology used in training courses given to local populations in rural, isolated zones of Madagascar. Analysis and feedback on any incoherence between theory and practice, keeping in mind that in the latter, adaptation is a keyword. The session will end with a Q&A.

New feature for TUR4all

We would like to introduce you to the new feature we are developing for the accessible tourism platform TUR4all. The feature in question is a “booking button” which makes the platform more accessible and brings us closer to the user. Thanks to TUR4all, users will be able to book directly with the establishment of their choosing.

We have begun implementing this feature for the hotels included on the platform. However, it will soon be available for each PREDIF-verified touristic resource with a reservation option (restaurants, museums, vineyards…).

International Conference: Digital Civil Society

The International Conference: Digital Civil Society will be a resume of all three events and will give instructions on how to use digitalization and new technologies in the improvement and modernization of the civic sector, in order to increase solidarity and make a more profound social impact.

ISTO members’ meeting in Mexico

Convened by ISTO Americas, members and partners from Mexico will meet at the
invitation of the H. Ayuntamiento of San Luis Potosi and with the support of the Instituto Iberoamericano de Turismo Inclusivo, in San Luis Potosi.

An occasion to participate together, from the Palacio Municipal of San Luis Potosi, in the General Assembly of ISTO members. After the assembly, the members and partners will meet to strengthen their relations and will have the opportunity to present their initiatives and projects in the field of social, solidarity and sustainable tourism. All this in preparation for the next Encuentro de las Américas de Turismo Social to be held in Mexico in 2023.

Braille reading and writing workshop

As part of training for members of the Accessible Tourism Network, we will organise a Braille reading and writing workshop with support from the National Institute for the Blind (INCI, in the Spanish acronym).

This workshop will raise participants’ awareness regarding the importance of the Braille system. They will be able to use Braille in their content, thus eliminating any barriers to communication.

Clean Colombia Day - Candelaria zone

Day of promotion and prevention on the theme of correctly sorting waste. Over the course of the day, participants will walk through a touristic, ecological route and help collect and sort waste.

E-learning workshop “My Accessible Museum”

In June 2022, our association is launching our first E-learning workshop, “My Accessible Museum”, in collaboration with the Foundation Make.org. This project aims to raise awareness and involve all cultural actors in terms of accessibility and the service itself.

Forest bathing and conscious breathing in 10.000 steps

It will be a slow walk along one of the 59 paths of the project "FVG in Movement - 10.000 steps for your health". It will take place in Cercivento, a little village in the mountains of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

During the walk, the participants, completely surrounded by nature, will do exercises of conscious breathing for the wellness of their body, mind and soul.

Project Natur'Accessible

The presentation will focus on the project "Natur'Accessible: Development of nature trails for people with special needs in the nature parks of Wallonia (Belgium)".

Meeting day for Place de Marché’s partners - Data usage as a way to strategise territories

Each year, we organise a meeting day for the Place de Marché (virtual marketplace) partners. These include regions, associations, professionals, and more. This year, the theme of data, and how to use it in a responsible and sustainable way, will be at the heart of the discussion.

Practical guide “Dare to take time for yourself in Wallonia”

This guide aims to assist those who have suffered a disconnect from the notion of holidays and rest, due to social or financial factors. These index cards contain advice on finding affordable tourism activities and holidays in Wallonia. They also help people in vulnerable situations calculate their budget and organise their time away.

This tool aims to empower them to “dare to step out of their comfort zones” by asking themselves the right questions. The guide was created by the CGT (Commissariat général au Tourisme) and is distributed to recipients by social actors.

Partners day - Inaugurating a new branch in Marseille

Opening new paths: a way toward fair tourism

What is fair Tourism? What are its principles and how can they be applied? What are the inspirational practices that exist and what challenges do they entail? Reflection on fair tourism is ongoing, multidisciplinary and wide-ranging. Discovering its foundations through the analysis and the comprehension of our own experience can enable us to open new paths and assimilate new ideas.

During this workshop we will have a deep look at the four main values of fair tourism through practical and interactive exercises that will allow us to take a first step towards its theory and application.

Partnership between creative industries and tourism in the aim of developing regions

This round table will be attended by agents linked to various creative industries (film, literature and music) whose activities are related to the tourism sector. Thus, the aim of this activity is, through these specific cases, to learn about examples of good practices of how to link creative industries and tourism.

Likewise, the subsequent debate aims to explore how the commitment to generate a tourism offer based on the creative industries can contribute to sustainable territorial development that benefits the different local agents.

ISTO General Assembly

ISTO will hold its annual General Assembly, where all members are invited to join in order to overview ISTO's activities carried out in 2021-2022.

Can LGBT tourism be activism?

The activity will consist of an introduction of activism and LGBT tourism. Later we will include some videos from the students of the Master's in LGBT tourism at CETT-UB, where they discuss the topic of the workshop. Moreover, the students will be invited and participate in the debate that will take place after watching the videos. The debate will also be open to the public. We will also count with the participation of Núria Abellan, coordinator of the Master's in LGBT Tourism.

Guide “Outdoors for Everyone”

This guide is composed of short information sheets that are easy to read and understand. Its aim is to help managers, organisations, and municipalities develop inclusive, open-air activities and sites.

The guide covers a wide range of activities on land, in the water, and in the air, both in summer and winter. Each sheet contains an overview of adapted equipment suitable for various clients, inspiring practices which could serve as examples, and additional resources, such as specialised documents and accounts from inclusive outdoor spaces and events.

Inter-state solidarity trip between Mali and Guinea

The inter-state solidarity trip is a product of three partners: Tourism Without Borders, Rematourd, and Farafina Association in Kankan (Guinea-Conakry). This project aims at mixing two peoples who share the same border. The name of the circuit is Farafina.
