ISTO held virtually the second edition of the International Week of Fair and Sustainable Tourism for All, between June 22 and 25, 2021.
The International Social Tourism Organisation (ISTO), in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Peru (MINCETUR), organised between June 22 and 25 2021, the second edition of the International Week of Fair and Sustainable Tourism for All, which theme was “Transforming and improving world tourism”.
The International Week was the perfect occasion to generate times of exchange regarding the development of the tourism sector, presently and in the future, when the pandemic will be over.
On the first day of the International Week, the ISTO General Assembly was held, as well as the one of ISTO Americas. This was an opportunity for the partners to learn about the activities and efforts carried out in the 2020-2021 period, the financial statements for the period, and the activities planned for the coming months.
On June 23, 24 and 25, the International Week hosted 12 webinar sessions. During the three days, there were 48 experts -from the ISTO’s network, as well as external ones- from 18 different countries, who presented their knowledge and experiences to the participants. The topics discussed were diverse: recovery of the tourism sector after the pandemic, accessible tourism, community based tourism, marketing and innovation in tourism, among others.
It is worth mentioning that the ISTO Europe section organised a meeting of its Coordinating Council and a webinar on this year's tourism trends with a look into the future.
Isabel Novoa, President of ISTO, explained the importance of fair and sustainable tourism for all, indicating that this type of tourism is fundamental for the sector "because it incorporates a very broad value chain, focused on people, which is the one that contributes to the future and leaves no one behind, the one that works for tourism to be inclusive and for all people to exercise their right to quality leisure with a strong emphasis on sustainable and fairer development".
The International Week was attended by participants from all continents. Those who are interested can check out the webinars dedicated to the International Week, on ISTO’s website.
