How can natural areas become truly inclusive spaces, where diversity is embraced and accessibility is a right, not an afterthought?
In this webinar, held during ISTO International Week, KOAN Consulting will present (in English) the key results of the Erasmus+ DIANA project — Developing Inclusive and Accessible Natural Areas. The project explores how natural heritage can be transformed into a welcoming resource for all visitors, regardless of physical, sensory, or cognitive abilities.
With a transnational partnership involving Spain, Italy, and North Macedonia, DIANA has produced a Compendium of Best Practices, an Accessible and Inclusive Tourism in Nature Areas Training Toolkit, and has piloted inclusive training sessions in Italy and North Macedonia. These resources help shift the narrative from limitations to opportunities for inclusion.
Through co-creation with local communities and innovative interpretive strategies, the project showcases how responsibility, accessibility, and sociability can intersect to create nature-based tourism experiences that are truly inclusive and socially enriching.
This session is especially relevant for tourism professionals, public authorities, NGOs, and destination managers committed to building more inclusive and socially responsible tourism models.

As a result of the donations received through the Inspiration project of the Red Costarricense de Turismo Accesible, 20 pieces of adapted school uniforms will be officially delivered to the La Pitahaya Special Education Centre in San José. These pieces will be physically delivered to the director of the centre, who will be responsible for assigning them to the students with disabilities who need them most. This concrete action is possible thanks to the support of people who donated $50 USD to the RED and received a La Inspiración t-shirt, under the commitment that for every 5 t-shirts delivered, a piece of adapted uniform will be made and delivered. This initiative reflects the real impact of the movement: turning solidarity into inclusion, and each t-shirt into an opportunity to remove barriers to study.

This festival took place in two locations: Adéane and Goudomp, in Middle Casamance, Senegal. The association Les Amis des Arts de la Casamance in Ziguinchor, Senegal, organises this event every year. The focus on tourism and discovery, or responsible tourism, promotes the environment and traditional cultures.
The two host towns this year, Adéane (25 to 27 April 2025) and Goudomp-plage Badala (28 to 30 April 2025), are only 17 km apart. They share the Casamance River, a symbol of prosperity thanks to its flora and fauna.
With our eyes turned towards the river, water sports activities were organised, including a pirogue race in Adéane. To our great surprise, the sea mask appeared at the start of the festivities and at the end of the race. After the congratulations and the presentation of the trophies, all the rubbish was collected by a team of dynamic young people.
In Goudomp, Badala Beach, developed by the Goudomp Sama Gox association, was once a mangrove forest that has now disappeared. The canoe trip to Bird Island tells us its glorious history with miraculous catches, then its decline linked to its loss. This association aims to involve the people of Goudomp in rebuilding this fragile ecosystem in order to reduce poverty.
The development of inter-state tourism was on the agenda, namely Mali, Guinea Conakry and Côte d'Ivoire. The next step will be to mobilise stakeholders in responsible and sustainable tourism in Senegal.
