The CASC is a trade union and social organisation, one of the largest in the Dominican Republic, based on the principles and values of Christian humanism. Its mission is to study, defense, develop and protect urban and rural workers' rights, interests and aspirations and to improve the scientific, cultural, economic, social and moral of its affiliates. The organisation gathers a third of the Dominican workers, a very significant number in a country where almost half of the population works in the informal sector. To better meet the demand of its workers and to devote themselves voluntarily to social tourism, the CASC recently created within its own organisation, the Agency for Social and Solidarity Tourism (TURISSOL). The main objective of TURISSOL is to "create the necessary conditions for the Dominican workers so that they can enjoy a quality holiday at the best price possible, with innovative products that enhance environmental protection and activities to improve health, family life and other patterns of human activity."
