In the framework of the E-Week of Fair and Sustainable Tourism for All and especially of the webinar on the role of public authorities in the rebuilding of tourism, the Secretary of Tourism of Mexico, Miguel Torruco, wanted to express himself in video.
"I congratulate the International Social Tourism Organisation for the realisation of this "E-Week of Fair and Sustainable Tourism for All".
The situation that prevails in the world due to the presence of the covid-19 has forced us to stop, to change our way of acting and interacting, prevailing the use of new technologies in the day to day.
Today it is time to look for new ways of doing tourism, a tourism with a social approach, which privileges the development and growth of the most unprotected sectors of society.
Tourism is an important instrument of progress and well-being, with great potential to contribute to the eradication of poverty. Therefore, it must be used as a tool for social reconciliation.
The tourism sector faces an enormous challenge and from the Mexican government's tourism secretariat we have carried out projects and actions with criteria of sustainability, solidarity and social responsibility, with the aim of preserving the natural and cultural heritage of the destinations, guaranteeing accessibility and inclusion of all types of tourism and opening up spaces for social participation and empowerment of the receiving communities.
It is time to work together, so I invite you, with your talent and experience, to join in the creation of proposals and alternatives for this new era of tourism.
And as I have pointed out on many occasions during my professional life: "it will be the nations that best preserve their historical, cultural and gastronomic identity that will fully benefit from the benefits offered by the exciting tourism activity", leaving a legacy of hope for future generations.
I wish you the greatest success, and that it be for the good of the tourism activity."
