Social Sustainability of Tourism: Connecting the Essential in 360º

The 29º World Congress of the International Social Tourism Organisation (ISTO) is a meeting point where will gather leaders, innovators, experts and professionals of social, fair and sustainable tourism.

This Congress, which will take place from 21 to 25 October 2024 in the dynamic city of San Jose, Costa Rica, positions itself as a unique platform for the exchange of knowledge, collaboration and inspiration between the participants.

It is worth highlighting that this Congress is supported by the Costa Rica Tourism Board (ICT), promoting fair and sustainable tourism for all.

You will have the opportunity to take part in interesting debates, attend sessions that promote reflection and discover the keys to promoting socially sustainable practices in tourism.

The ISTO World Congress will be divided into 3 main parts:

21-22 October: Experiences in 360º of ISTO’s DNA

• Field visits designed to let international participants live, learn and exchange experiences in the tourism ecosystem of Costa Rica.
• You can choose between experiences that will propose visits to: Protected Natural Areas, Coastal Areas or Cultural Heritage.

23 October: ISTO at 360º

• Statutory meetings of ISTO and more.
• An Extraordinary General Assembly will be held, along with the ISTO Board of Directors, meetings of the regional sections (Africa, Americas and Europe), a CafecISTO Live and a meeting of the ISTO Alliance on Training and Research.

24 -25 October: 360º of Social Sustainability in Tourism

• Dissemination and exchange of best practices centered around innovation and research, with the social sustainability of the tourism sector as the priority.
• Plenary sessions will be held as well as parallel workshops, and multiple spaces will be available for networking purposes, to strengthen the alliances.
