During the CafecISTO Americas of the last 16 March, ISTO Americas took the opportunity to officially present the Encuentro de las Américas de Turismo Social Colombia 2022 - an event that brings together ISTO members from all over the world.
The Encuentro is co-organised by leading Colombian tourism organisations, ISTO members, including the Instituto Distrital de Turismo de Bogotá (IDT), the Alcaldía de Medellín and Comfenalco Antioquia. Along with ISTO President Isabel Novoa who gave the opening message and ISTO Americas Director Veronica Gomez, in the CafecISTO participated, in order of appearance: Sandra Howard from the Alcaldia de Medellin, María Ximena Villota and Juan Lamar from IDT as well as Julian Calle and Veronica Barrera from Comfenalco Antioquia, in a webinar streamed via Facebook Live, which lasted approximately one hour.
This Encuentro de las Américas de Turismo Social, which will take place in the cities of Bogota and Medellin from 25 to 30 April 2022, will become a space to redefine tourism, rediscover territories, celebrate brotherhood and also give visibility to social tourism best practices carried out in Colombia and in other countries of the Americas in terms of social, fair and sustainable tourism. The Encuentro will also allow us to discover the actions and projects developed in the host country in order to create rich moments of experiences exchange between all ISTO members. The Encuentro becomes an opportunity to exalt the unity and diversity that characterise the American continent and that no one can miss.
Throughout a week of work, ISTO members will start with the ISTO Americas General Assembly, followed by an academic forum and technical visits in Bogota. This will be followed by the FET - Tourism for All Fair and a full academic agenda in Medellin, under the subject: "Tourism, pillar of social transformation". This important agenda will be illustrated by a technical visit to several experiences proposed by Alcaldia de Medellin and Comfenalco Antioquia.
This Encuentro de las Américas de Turismo Social - 2022 will be the first time that ISTO Americas network will have the opportunity to meet in person and exchange with each other and also with the Colombian tourism sector after the sanitary emergency that has affected the whole world and in which we will have the opportunity to strengthen commercial, political and friendship ties, as well as to exchange experiences throughout this difficult period, so we hope to count with all of you!
