The Secretariat of Tourism's goals include promoting the sustainable development of tourism to the authorities, drawing public and private tourism investments, developing the state tourism programme, drafting promotion policies, coordinating with federal and municipal authorities the regulation and application of sanctions toward tourism service providers, and informing the population about the tourists' rights and duties, etc.
The main goal is the promotion of social tourism in the State of Guanajuato through actions that will lead the Secretariat of Tourism to share experiences and learn from institutions that implemented best practices in terms social tourism worldwide, based on Article 36 of the Tourism Law of the State of Guanajuato and its municipalities, which establishes that the Secretariat of Tourism “will bolster and promote among national and international organisations the support of investments and programmes in the field of social tourism."
