On 7 December, the CGT Wallonie presented the results of a research carried out about social tourism in recent years in the Walloon region of Belgium.
The Commissariat Général au Tourisme (CGT) of Wallonia has developed an initiative to elaborate indicators on the different dimensions of tourism, including social tourism.
In this context, the CGT Wallonie has set up a survey among its network of accommodations linked to social tourism with the aim of continuing and deepening the measurement not only of the economic relevance of social tourism in Wallonia but also of its role at different levels. These include the inclusion of disadvantaged groups, support for the local economy, reduction of the environmental impact of tourism, among others.
It is worth noting that the survey was applied in 2019 and 2020, which makes it possible to observe the impact that the health crisis has had on these establishments. As expected, accommodation related to social tourism in the Walloon region was affected by Covid-19. However, the first analyses show that employment in this kind of establishments was less affected than in establishments not linked to this type of tourism.
The presentation will soon be available on the CGT Wallonie website.
This meeting, which brought together many key stakeholders of tourism for all in Wallonia, also provided an opportunity to present the general orientations of the Tourism for All Observatory that the International Social Tourism Organisation (ISTO) is currently developing.
