For the sixth consecutive time, ISTO and in particular ISTO Americas will collaborate in the organisation of a new edition of this important event that promotes sustainability, solidarity and social responsibility, and that for the first time leaves its Cancun venue to arrive in the centre of the Mexican Republic, in the municipality of León in Guanajuato.
The Secretary of Tourism of the State of Guanajuato, Juan José Álvarez Brunel, along with Miguel Torruco Marqués, National Secretary of Tourism of Mexico; Fernando Mandri, President of the Sustainable & Social Tourism Summit; and Michele Pitta, Project Specialist of the Department of Affiliate Members of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), announced, during the International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR) in Madrid, Spain, the realization of the "Sustainable & Social Tourism Summit".
The event will take place from 31 August to 03 September 2022, and will feature an important academic agenda and different national and international partner organisations will take advantage of the occasion to hold their meetings and sessions. This edition also invites tourism professionals and organisations from Ibero-America to participate in the "Prize for sustainable and social tourism in Ibero-America 2022", which will be awarded to the best practices in the tourism sector. The call for applications will be open from 1 April to 31 June 2022.
Guanajuato has a clear and defined social tourism policy, which, through its social tourism coordination area, manages, coordinates and guides actions and initiatives that promote access to tourism for all in a supportive and sustainable way, with the ongoing cooperation and support of ISTO's Americas section.
ISTO congratulates its members: the Ministry of Tourism of the State of Guanajuato, the chosen host city, the Municipality of León, and the Sustainable & Social Tourism Summit A.C. for the realisation of this renewed event, wishing it every success in its new home, and inviting all its members to participate, either in person or virtually.
