On May 9th and 10th, several holiday centers on the Belgian coast are opening their doors and organizing fun and educational activities, with respect for the environment. This event, called Zeejemee, aims to raise awareness of this type of tourist structure and to highlight the DNA of the Belgian coast. NZ Vakanties is participating by opening the doors of its holiday center in Oostduinkerke.

Programme for Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th of May:
  • Hop on / Hop off train between participating accommodations:
    Barkentijn - Floréal - Kompass Camping and stops: Petting zoo, fish auction, Albert I Monument via the beautifully mapped out route from Nieuwpoort: Sint Bernarduskerk, Simliwijk , Kinderlaan, Victorlaan, cardijnlaan , Petting Farm, Vismijn, Kaai, Marktplein, Duvetorre, Albert I Monument, Brugseweg and via Ramskapelle back to Nieuwpoort Bad.
  • Visit Albert I monument and the Westfront visitor centre
    Sluice Complex & Ganzepoot | Iron Memorial | story underwater | panorama on top of the monument
    Duration: 1.5 to 2 hours - between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
  • With the nature guide through the nature reserve
    Over salty, fresh and brackish water | biotope for birds and seals | typical fauna | beautiful and soothing viewing huts
    Duration: 1,5 to 2 hours - each time at 2 p.m. - start at the Halve Maanstraat
  • Children's farm the lens polder: "from sheep's wool to soft sweater"
    Sheep care | wool processing | applications: weaving, fingerhooks, ...
    Duration: 1.5 to 2 hours - each time at 2 p.m. - start at De Lenspolder Children's Farm.
  • Witch-hunt: search through the inner city of Nieuwpoort
    Go on the road with Cornelia and decipher the keyword
    Duration: 1.5 hours - search form available at Tourism Nieuwpoort - start at City Hall Nieuwpoort (Marktplein)

Fish Market visit: 'A look behind the scenes of the Nieuwpoort Fish Market'.
Simulation of fish auction | visit to sales room | passage along fishing boats
Duration: 1 to 1.5 hours - start at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Specific programme for Sunday the 10th of May:

Historical city walk: 'Nieuwpoort as a city of many guises' | city hall | Our Lady's Church | Duvetorre | reconstruction architecture
Duration: 1.5 to 2 hours - start at 10 am and 2 pm.
